Frequently asked questions

How do I install OmarOS?

Download the ISO, verify it, write it to a USB stick and boot from it. The installer asks a few configuration questions and which drive to use, then sets up everything else in a few minutes.

Will it run on my computer?

The ISO is for 64-bit x86 PCs. Turn off Secure Boot in the BIOS before you install. The manual has notes for Macs, dual booting and specific hardware.

How do I update?

Run omaros-update in a terminal, or open the OmarOS menu and pick Update, then OmarOS. The top bar shows when updates are waiting.

How is OmarOS related to Omarchy?

OmarOS is built on Omarchy by DHH, with its own name, look, default apps and privacy settings. Most packages still come from Omarchy's and Arch's servers.

Report a bug

Bugs are tracked on GitLab. A good report includes:

  • Your OmarOS version (run omaros-version in a terminal)
  • Your computer's make and model
  • What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
  • A log link from omaros-upload-log, if the problem is with installing or booting

Share a log

When the maintainers ask for a log, run one of these in a terminal. Each uploads a log and prints a link to send them:

omaros-upload-logThe installation log
omaros-upload-log this-bootThe system log since this boot
omaros-upload-log last-bootThe system log of the previous boot
omaros-upload-log installedSystem information and installed packages

Only you decide when a log is uploaded. Links expire after 24 hours, and logs are deleted with them.
